Pather Panchali
Dir. Satyajit Ray | 1955 | 125 mins | B&W | India | Bengali (subtitled) | U
One of our favourite films opens the Native Tongues line-up - Pather Panchali is the first film in Satyajit Ray's wonderful Apu Trilogy. Soundtracked by master sitar player Ravi Shankar, and featuring naturalistic performances from the mainly non-professional cast, it's a gem of world cinema.
