Summer Of Soul (…Or, When The Revolution Could Not Be Televised)
Dir. Questlove | 2021 | 118 mins | Colour | USA | English | 12A
Musician Questlove presents an outstanding documentary revealing 'lost' footage from the 1969 Harlem Cultural Festival, a gathering of some of the finest African-American musicians the world has ever seen, alongside powerful and community-girding speeches from icons of the civil rights movement.
Featuring spine-tingling performances from Stevie Wonder, Mahalia Jackson, Sly And The Family Stone, BB King and many, many more. One of the greatest music documentaries I've ever seen.
Why you should see it: because it's an uplifting, inspiring and thought-provoking presentation of a lost moment in Black American history - and the music is simply incredible
