Pickpocket

Dir. Robert Bresson | 1959 | 76 mins | B&W | France | French (subs) | PG

We will continue to wear masks at the front desk and while ushering, and encourage you to do the same to protect others in the small cinema space.

Michel (Martin LaSalle) passes the time by picking pockets, careful to never be caught despite being watched by the police. His friend Jacques (Perre Leymarie) may suspect, while both men may have their eyes on Jeanne (Marika Green), the pretty neighbor of Michel's ailing mother.

An all-time great from French director Robert Bresson. A masterpiece that has had wide influence, especially on the films of Paul Schrader. Screening from the BFI's new 4K restoration, this is a rare chance to see it on the big screen.

Why you should see it: because it's an unmissable, seminal crime drama
