The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou (2004)
Dir. Wes Anderson
Colour | English | 119 mins | 15
The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou was Wes Anderson's fourth feature film and demonstrated, once again, his deft writing touch and particular brand of hyper-realistic, model-detailed world building. Bill Murray is wonderful as Steve Zissou, a submarine explorer modelled on Jacques Cousteau, who embarks on an adventure to seek revenge for his friend's death at the hands (or rather jaws) of the rare Jaguar Shark.
Murray is joined by many of Anderson's favourite actors; Owen Wilson, Anjelica Houston, Cate Blanchett and Jeff Goldblum are all a joy to watch. Known for his cool, retro soundtracks, Anderson reall knocked it out of the park with this one. Brazilian musician Seu Jorge punctuates the film with magical Portugese language, acoustic guitar renditions of David Bowie songs - sublime!
Doors at Penarth Pier Pavilion will open at 7:30pm and the film will start at 8pm sharp. A bar will be available along with popcorn and confectionary.
Tickets are £6.50 (plus booking fee) in advance, £7.50 on the door.
